Bret Chandler Poker Run

There will be a benefit poker run to help the Chandler family of Buncombe County.  Bret Chandler is in the final stages of Lou Gehrig’s disease.  The family also has an eight-year old son with Tublar Scoliosis, which prevents the boy’s mother from working.  The Poker run takes place at Skylanes Bowling at 1477 Patton Avenue in Asheville on Saturday, August 28th,  between 11-3.  Cost is 10 dollars per person.  There will be a 50/50 raffle, Bar-b-que plates and other fundraising associated with this effort.  For More information, contact Andrea Monroe at Skylanes at 252-2269.


Enka/Candler Fire Dept. Auxiliary

The Enka/Candler Fire Dept Auxiliary is having a Poor Man's Supper; on Saturday, August 28th. from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm. The menu is Pinto Beans, Coleslaw, Mac and Cheese, Drinks and Desserts.  Come out and help us raise money for the Auxiliary to support the Firefighters.

First Baptist Church of Black Mountain

Joyful Noise

Joyful Noise Community Music and Art Center is announcing new class offerings for fall 2010 and a new location in South Asheville. Group classes for children and adults start in September with beginning guitar, beginning songwriting, percussion, Appalachian jamming,  visual arts, drama, and chamber music. Joyful Noise is also accepting students for private lessons on violin, viola, cello, fiddle, piano, guitar, dobro, pedal steel, percussion, and voice. Joyful Noise is a non-profit organization based in Weaverville with satellite locations in Marshall and South Asheville. Cliffs Valley Wellness Center

The Cliffs’ 2nd annual NCAA Tennis Classic will take place Friday through Sunday, September 24-26th at the Cliffs Valley Wellness Cneter.  All proceeds from the tournament will help fund the Cliffs Residents Outreach, a volunteer-driven, not for profit agency which provides food, clothing and medical care and shelter to the children and their families in neighboring communities.  For more information contact Ernie Cloer at 864-660-1180.


Henderson County Travel and Tourism

The British Car Club of Western North Carolina will hold a car show on Saturday, September 25th from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. at Jackson Park in Hendersonville.  The show will benefit Meals on Wheels.  The event will take place rain or shine.  Registration is 20 dollars per car.  The British Car Club of Western North Carolina has donated 20-thousand dollars to local charities over the past ten years.  For more information call 329-6786 or go to www.autumninthemountains.org
